NIA reportedly raided the house of B M Basha who happens to be the son of late Ullal MLA B M Idinabba. They arrested Basha's daughter-in-law Deepthi Marla aka Mariam for suspected ISIS ties.

BM Idinbba was a member of the Congress party who represented the Ullal constituency in the Karnataka state assembly three times.

The NIA, working with state police units, conducted simultaneous searches at five locations in August 2021, three in Kashmir and one each in Bengaluru and Mangaluru. They arrested four suspects in connection with an investigation into an ISIS recruitment case.  They arrested Amar Abdul Rehman, another of Basha's sons, after a two-day investigation. Officials were suspicious of Mariam's ISIS ties during the raid last year, according to reports.

Obaid Hamid and Muzammil Hassan Bhat from Kashmir, Ammar Abdul Rahman from Mangaluru, and Shankar Venkatesh Perumal, alias Ali Muaviya, from Bengaluru, were arrested, according to the NIA. They were accused of raising funds, radicalising, and recruiting new ISIS members.

Mariam, the wife of Anas Abdul Rahiman, Basha's son, was apprehended by Krisha Kumar, DSP, Assistant Investigating Officer, NIA, Delhi, and Ajay Singh P I, along with Monika Dhikwal.

Despite the fact that Mariam was interrogated for two days by the NIA during the raid last year, she had not been arrested officially. Since then, the agency had reportedly been kept a close eye on her every move.

According to reports, Deepthi Marla, a native of Kodagu, met Anas while studying BDS at a Deralakatte college. Later, she converted to Islam and changed her name to Mariam.

She is suspected of having ties to both the terrorist group ISIS and militants in Jammu and Kashmir. Mariam was investigated by the NIA on suspicion of being involved in a racket to recruit youths to the ISIS network, according to media reports
