According to the deceased woman's son, who saw the confirmation message that was sent to her phone on December 9, his mother had reportedly received her first dose in April 2021. The 67-year-old woman had died a week after that. The message of her receiving a second of the vaccine has thus shocked the son. On December 13, an enquiry was ordered by the District Immunisation Officer.

This incident was reported from Raighat Urban PHC where the elderly woman, who is a resident of Isaitola Colony, had got her first dose. The region's DIO Ravi Shankar said that a show-cause notice has been issued to the PHC head Dr Trapti Parashar and ANM Gyan Devi. They were the people on duty at the time of the incident.

Although, this is not the first time that a mix up like this has taken place. The relatives of a 30-year-old woman who had died on September 21, had received a similar message on vaccination on December 4 this year.

According to media reports, the state of Uttar Pradesh, in 14 days after August 3, crossed the six crores COVID-19 vaccination mark on August 17. They had further been given a target of ten crore doses by August 31.

However, they faced challenges with ensuring the same coverage for the second dose that had been administered to 97 lakh people till August 19. In an interview with India Today, the Uttar Pradesh Vaccination Officer Dr Ajay Ghai said, "We plan to further expand the drive and vaccinate 80 percent of the population by the end of the festive season." He also announced an only second-dose-on-Saturday-drive to boost the numbers.

On the national level, India's vaccination coverage tally stands at 133 crore doses, as of December 13. Of these,  81 crore have been first doses of the vaccine, while 52 crore were of the second dose.

Till today, India has reported 5,784 new coronavirus cases and Omicron cases number up to 41. The WHO and the government have reaffirmed the need to follow the protocols seriously to avoid a massive spread. The public has been advised to mask up and maintain distance in public space, also urging people to get fully vaccinated. States in India like Maharashtra also put forth a restriction on public gatherings as the wedding season swings in full flow.
