DCW chief Swati Malliwal took suo moto cognizance in 208 cases and approached 487 cases herself. Recently, she chalked out a ‘Rape Roko’ campaign after a man allegedly raped an eight-month-old girl. Malliwal wrote to the PM demanding death penalty for the accused. Reports say that the man is the first cousin of the child and lived in the same building. The incident sparked agitation and protests.

The present commission has been working round the clock to aid women and girls in distress. It is officially working on Saturdays and Sundays

Malliwal has suggested 55 policy changes to the government and conducted 59 visits and inspections in one year. Other members, Dr Fraheen Malick, Promila Gupta and Sarika Chaudhary have held over 9,806 hearings and conducted 204 visits and inspections.

In December 2017, Swati Malliwal conducted raids to expose illegal sale of liquor in the national capital. This also led to beating up of one of members of DCW by the liquor sellers.

Talking about the commission’s work in rescue and rehabilitation, Malliwal told Millenium Post that the present commission has been working round the clock to aid women and girls in distress. It is officially working on Saturdays and Sundays. "Despite working day and night, it deeply saddens me that children of eight months are raped," said the DCW chairperson.
