The societal pressure of having kids on couples is not new in India. From the day they are married, the relatives and family wait eagerly for the arrival of a child in the family. The pressure slowly turns into concerns, comments, advice and taunts as years pass by if the couple does not have a child.
This pressure is extremely toxic yet very casual in the eyes of the insensitive society. However, in a strange case from Uttarakhand, a couple is reportedly suing their son and daughter-in-law for not giving them a grandchild.
A couple sued their son for a grandchild in Uttarakhand and demanded a whopping Rs. 5 crores compensation if their son and daughter-in-law fail to bear them a grandchild within a year. The couple took the case to court in Haridwar, Uttarakhand.
Uttarakhand Couple Sues Son For Grandchild
SR Prasad and his wife moved to court in Haridwar, Uttarakhand to sue their son and daughter-in-law. The reason for suing them is rather bizarre as the couple stated that they were doing so as their son and daughter-in-law had not yet produced a grandchild. The couple also demanded a compensation of Rs. 5 crores from their son and daughter-in-law if they are unable to give them a grandchild within a year.
AK Srivastava, the couple's lawyer defended their case by reportedly stating, "We invest in our children, make them capable of working in good firms. Children owe their parents basic financial care. The parents have demanded either a grandchild within a year or compensation of ₹ 5 crores"
SR Prasad got his son married in 2016 hoping he will be starting his own family and they will have a grandchild. The couple said that they just wanted a grandchild and the sex of the child did not matter to them. However, after almost 6 years of marriage, their son did not have a child.
SR Prasad also said that they are financially exhausted because of the loan they took and the expenses they made for their son's training in America. Hence, they want 2.5 crores from their son and daughter-in-law respectively as compensation for not giving them a grandchild.
