MP farmer union leader organised his son's wedding ceremony where hundreds of farmers have been protesting the centre's agriculture laws.

According to NDTV,  Ramjit Singh, Madhya Pradesh Kisan Mahasabha's district leader, told the reporters that he wants to send a "strong message to the government of India”

“We will not leave the protest site, even for our son's marriage...we also want to give a message to the society as this marriage took place without dowry...this is the city's first marriage in which the bride brought the baraat”, Singh said.

In fact, Sachin and Asma Singh- the newlywed couple-  took pheras around the idols of social reformers BR Ambedkar and Savitribai Phule. Also, they took an oath to protect the constitution during the ceremony.

Additionally, they donated the gifts received to the farmers’ union which organised the protest.

The groom, Sachin, told the reporters, "We will leave no stones unturned for our demands”.

What is the farmers’ protest about?

The three farm laws that came into effect in September 2020 are against the interests of the farmers. Since November 2020, thousands of farmers have been protesting at Delhi borders and several other places against the laws, pitching them as long-overdue reforms that would help improve farm incomes.

Farmers, however, want the laws scrapped, saying that it takes away the protection of guaranteed prices for their produce. However, the Centre has not agreed to their appeals and have remained silent to their demands.
