As per the reports, the couple had overdosed on some pills on Saturday night which led to their death. The police said that the wife Bindhu died last night but the husband Pillai's death was confirmed on Sunday morning itself.

Why were the parents upset?

After interacting with the relatives, the police said that the couple were mentally upset over their daughter's relationship. They took the extreme step when the daughter eloped with her lover despite their requests to give up her love interest.

This incident comes days after Allahabad High Court pulled up parents for opposing their daughter's love marriage and filing an FIR against their son-in-law.

Allahabad HC recently schooled parents about accepting their daughter's love marriage

Justice Prashant Kumar said, "This is a clear case of the dark face of our society. Even today, when children, who marry on their own, their parents under their family and society’s pressure, do not approve of the marriage and go to the extent of filing an FIR against the boy. The court, after hearing the parties, records its deepest anguish, whereby this social menace is deep-rooted that even after 75 years of independence we are fighting cases with his opponents on this score only”.

Adding further, the bench said, "This societal resistance is the greatest impediment in our society but the requirement of law is that when both parties have agreed and now they are happily residing as husband and wife with their small kid, there cannot be any impediment in accepting this marriage.”
