Cop Helps Woman Deliver Baby On Platform At Tamil Nadu Railway Station

A 29-year-old pregnant woman who was travelling on an express train gave birth to a child at the Arakkonam railway station in the Ranipet district of Tamil Nadu. The woman cop on duty at the platform, Parameshwari, helped her give birth before the doctor could arrive.

A 29-year-old pregnant woman delivered a baby while travelling on an express train at the Arakkonam railway station in the Ranipet district of Tamil Nadu. The woman cop on duty at the platform, Parameshwari, helped her give birth before the doctor could arrive.

When Chandini, a pregnant woman, boarded the train at Tiruppatur, she suddenly began to experience labour pains. Her family immediately contacted the travel ticket examiner (TTE), who alerted the railway police at the Arakkonam railway station. The doctor was informed after railway employees brought woman to the passenger waiting area. However, Chandini gave birth to a child with the assistance of woman head constable Parameshwari before the doctor could get there.

S Vijayalakshmi, inspector, Railway Police (Arakkonam), stated to a media outlet that the train arrived at the station around 2.20 pm and within 10 minutes, the delivery was completed.

The inspector added, "All credit goes to our head constable Parameshwari. The woman (Chandini) was heading to a hospital in Perambur. At the Arakkonam station, she experienced pain and was soon brought to the passenger waiting room. We informed the railway doctor and an ambulance was also made available. But she started to experience more pain and our constable, who was on platform duty, helped her deliver the baby in the passenger room. The doctor arrived by then and carried out other procedures. This is her second child, both the boy and mother are doing fine." Police carried the mother and son to the Arakkonam Government Hospital.

In a similar instance in September, a police officer in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, assisted a homeless woman in giving birth to her child. Ilavarasi, the head constable posted to the Vellore South Police Station's Anna Salai, was on the night shift. She heard a woman scream in pain at 2.30 am. Ilavarasi arrived quickly and discovered a woman in labour who was sobbing. She quickly dialled the numbers for the ambulance and police station. However, without waiting, she helped the mother give birth to the infant as she started to crown. A picture of  the policewoman holding the infant, also went viral after the incident made headlines.
