A Special Cell of the Delhi Police in a joint operation with Manipur Police has arrested Kanarjit Kangujam for forgery. Kungujam, who is reportedly a self-proclaimed youth leader from Manipur is known as Dr KK Singh. He is climate activist Licypriya's father and is facing the charges of “forgery and cheating”, Eastmojo reported.

Kangujam is accused of collecting funds and fees from national and international students in the name of organising international youth committee meets, which reportedly turned out to be a scam. He has allegedly been taking funds for earthquake victims which never reached their beneficiaries. He is also accused of forging documents and signatures, hence, a reward of one lakh rupees had earlier been announced on his arrest, police said.

The climate activist's father had been absconding  after a case was registered against him under Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 468 (Forgery for purpose of cheating) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention), police added. As per reports, police found out that Singh had rented a place in Noida-Extension. With the help of technical surveillance, they monitored his movement and after tracking him down, the officers informed Manipur Police and held him on Sunday night from the Maharani Bagh area. He was going to meet someone at the airport. An officer claimed that he had allegedly created an NGO based on forged registration numbers and cheated some people after taking money. A similar case was registered against him in 2015.

Further, he was declared a fugitive by the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal East on 25 April 2016 in a criminal case. "His house was raided and all incriminating articles were picked up. He is absconding in another case as well, so he will be investigated for both cases", an official has been quoted as saying.

Licypriya was in the limelight for leading a climate change movement in India as she had lashed out at the government and the opposition for not fulfilling her demands of passing the Climate Change Law. Last month, she had also donated oxygen cylinders from her savings.
