China's law against distributing obscene content online meant that businesses that used female lingerie models had to find alternatives.

Livestreams that break the restriction are terminated, and violators may be prosecuted for spreading such content. Online lingerie shops are using males to model in order to get around this prohibition.

Many companies have imitated the move made by one online retailer in December 2022, which swapped its female models with male models in order to get around the restriction.

According to Mr Xu, the owner of an e-commerce company, male models are now used in live-stream shopping since female models are no longer able to represent the company's designs.

He most recently debuted a man sporting a seductive silk robe on Douyin, China's equivalent of TikTok. The video received over 2,000 likes and a flurry of comments on social media. Men can be seen in a variety of outfits on live-stream videos produced by various businesses, such as push-up bras, corsets, and nightgowns with lace trim.

Mr Xu added that the business had no other choice.

The companies who took advantage of the loophole may have even developed a cutting-edge marketing plan that sets them apart from other providers of female goods.

In 2020, live-stream shopping became extremely popular in China, and the COVID-19 epidemic had a role in some of its growth. When more individuals were forced to stay at home, traditional stores started to close, and businesses moved their operations online, offering anything from bread to designer shoes.

The post, which gained popularity earlier this year, also includes two stream stills of two men dressed in ladies' lingerie. Twitter users responded to the message in a variety of ways. Several made light of the situation while others bemoaned the necessity of corporations employing such a strategy in order to prevent negative consequences.
