A video clip of the man wiping off her tears has been doing the rounds on China's social media platform Weibo. The woman's family members tell her that she is going to a 'new home', while she is crying. “Look how nice he is to you ... don’t cry, you’re in a new home now,” said a woman in the video.

Chinese authorities from the Henan Province have refused to allow such a marriage. However, they have approved the f the man and woman living together. Chinese laws state that consent of both the man and woman is required for the marriage, but this does not apply if one partner has mental disabilities. The woman in this case is mentally ill and can neither walk nor talk, so the marriage in this case is illegal.

The man had reportedly told a local newspaper that the video clip was from their wedding party. They couldn't register for the marriage in order to obtain a license.

The woman's father appeared on video to defend the so-called marriage. "Both parties were satisfied," he said.

A lawyer named Zhong Wen said that the marriage will be considered rape if the man and woman have a sexual relationship. “If there is a sexual relationship involving a mentally handicapped person, there’s a high possibility that it could constitute rape,” he said.
