Dr. Sudhir Kumar, a neurologist indicated that he detected the tumour, and one of the biggest symptoms was her shoe size growing up by two counts in two years.

Cancer Symptom Increased Shoe Size, Twitter Thread

Dr. Kumar in a series of tweets narrated that woman's spouse was his patient initially. The patient complained of back pain that is when the doctor observed his wife's face sitting adjacent to her spouse.

The doctor observed that her nose, tongue, and lips appeared a bit larger than usual. Her teeth were a little spaced out and spoke with a little heavy voice. Earlier he thought as per his expertise the possibility of a brain disease. Later he asked about her shoe size- "Don't mistake me, but has your shoe size increased?"- he asked. To which she replied shockingly, "doc, yes! It has increased from 5 to 7 in the past two years. Don't everyone's feet become larger as they grow older."

To which the doctor pointed out that feet do grow in childhood and adolescence but at your age, they don't grow. However, the doctor was certain about the disease and asked her to do a blood test and come back for review, as per the tweet thread.

In later tweets, he mentioned the test results of the woman. He wrote, "The blood test showed insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF 1) was very high, suggestive of excess growth hormone (GH) secretion. "Since GH is secreted from #pituitary gland in the brain, I asked for an MRI Brain, which confirmed the diagnosis of pituitary adenoma (a benign tumour)."

In 6th tweet, he wrote about her diagnosis and treatment, "A final diagnosis of acromegaly due to excess GH secretion from pituitary adenoma was made. Endocrinology and neurosurgery opinions were taken. She was operated on soon and the tumor was removed through the nose route, without opening the brain."

After 12 weeks IGF 1 level normalized. She made an excellent recovery. Facial features, tongue & speech improved. She required medications for mild diabetes. She possibly had the disease for two years before it was diagnosed. She was lucky to escape from serious complications, as per the tweet.

He concluded the tweet thread by leaving an important message for the netizen that - Increase in shoe size and changes in facial appearance in adults could be features of acromegaly (GH excess). Initial diagnosis can be made by a simple blood test- IGF 1. Early treatment can prevent serious complications.
