Lovlina Borgohain Joins Assam Police, Says She Wants To Win Gold In 2024 Paris Olympics

The Olympic winner, Lovlina Borgohain expresses gratitude on joining the state police force and says how she wants to focus on Paris Olympics 2024 and bring gold for the country.

Lovlina Borgohain, the boxing champion, who made the country proud by winning the bronze medal at the recent Olympics joined the Assam Police on January 12, 2022. She won the medal last year for the 69 kg women's welterweight during the Summer Olympics-2020 held in Japan in 2021.

 Assam's Chief Minister handed over the letter of appointment to her at the Assam Secretariat in Dispur. Borgohain will now serve as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Assam Police. 

Boxing Champion Lovlina Borgohain Aims For 2024 Paris Olympics: 

The Assam police congratulated the ace player on joining the troupe and wrote,"Your presence will surely help us in our mission towards friendly policing in the state".

She became the third boxer from India after M.C Mary Kom and Vijender Singh to win at the Olympics. On her return from Tokyo last year, she had been presented with a cheque of one crore rupees for her performance by the Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sharma. She was also offered the post for DSP in one of the felicitation programs in the state.

She expressed her gratitude towards being offered the position in Assam Police. Borgohain was joined by her parents during the ceremony. In one of her recent posts on her social media channel, she thanked the Chief Minister and added: "My main focus will be to work hard in sports and bring a gold medal for our country in the Paris Olympics 2024."

Earlier during the day, in an interview with ANI, she informed the media that it will be her duty to win more medals for Assam and the country. She wants to focus on training and as long as she will be boxing, she will not have to do police duties. She informed the media about taking up police duties after she retires from boxing. 

Borgohain also talked about her responsibilities: "From now on, a new responsibility has come into my life. I will try to find more talented players". Even the Chief Minister congratulated her and wished that she gets inducted into the Indian Police Service (IPS) Cadre in due course.
