Manipur: Body Of Woman With A Bullet Wound Found Near Imphal

On November 8, the lifeless body of a woman was discovered with a gunshot wound on her head, near the Tairenpokpi area in Imphal West. Similarly, on the preceding night, the body of an unidentified man was located in the the Imphal East district.

On November 8, the lifeless body of a woman was discovered with a gunshot wound on her head, near the Tairenpokpi area in Imphal West. The remains have been sent to the mortuary at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIIMS) located in Imphal, Manipur.

Similarly, on the preceding night, the lifeless body of an unidentified man, bearing bullet wounds to the head, was located in the Takhok Mapal Makha area within the Imphal East district. Notably, the victim's hands were bound, and his eyes were blindfolded.

According to the reports by Times Of India, the deaths are believed to be linked to the abduction of four tribal individuals. It appears to be the work of an unidentified group of armed assailants near the Kangchup foothills in Imphal West on the morning of November 7.

The Indigenous Tribal Leaders' Forum (ITLF), in a statement issued on the same day, reported that a group of five tribal civilians, en route to L Phaijang village in a vehicle, were intercepted by gunmen. During the encounter, a scuffle ensued, resulting in injuries to 65-year-old Manglun Haokip from Bolkot village. Subsequently, he lost consciousness and was abandoned on the road by the attackers while they abducted the remaining four individuals.

CRPF personnel later discovered Haokip in critical condition. He has since been airlifted to Guwahati, where reports indicate that his condition remains precarious.

Police Investigation

As reported by the Mint, the body was dispatched to the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal East for post-mortem examinations and identification purposes. A police official stated, "An FIR has been lodged, and an investigation is currently underway."

A significant number of individuals, including women from Phayeng, had previously become alarmed by the presence of unfamiliar individuals from a different community. According to eyewitnesses, they had ventured to the Kangchup hillside to ascertain the identity of those who had entered the Meitei area.

On November 7, a minimum of nine individuals, comprising two Manipur police personnel and a woman, sustained gunshot wounds as a result of gunfire by unidentified individuals at the Kangchup foothills.
