The youth-wing leader, along with her security personal was arrested from inside her car for carrying 100 gm of cocaine inside her handbag and other parts of the car. Probir Kumar Dey, Pamela's friend, has also been arrested from NR Avenue in the New Alipore area of Kolkata in the alleged case.

As per reports, Goswami would regularly stop at a particular spot. Acting on a tip-off, and observing her movements based on the information received, the New Alipore police team surrounded eight vehicles around Goswami's car and arrested her.  “She was involved in drug trafficking for quite some time. Today, we got information that she along with her supplier Prabir was reaching the spot to hand over the drugs to the purchasers,” the police officer said. However, the officer added that an investigation is underway to find whether Pamela Goswami is actually involved in any drug racket.

State minister and senior Trinamool Congress leader Chandrima Bhattacharya slammed the BJP and called them out for being involved in illegal activities. Bhattacharya said that earlier BJP leaders were involved in child trafficking, and now drug trafficking. "It cannot be a conspiracy every time. It is a matter of shame to see women leaders being involved in such illegal activities,” she said.

Meanwhile, BJP claims that it suspects police role in the drugs recovery, but if Goswami is at fault, the law should take its course. State BJP spokesperson Samik Bhattacharya said that the model could be planted. However, he demanded an investigation to learn whether the youth leader is herself involved in the illegal activity or she is being framed.

However, BJP MP Locket Chatterjee said that the state police had named several BJP activists in arms cases in the past. Chatterjee added that he does not have much information on the incident, and will prefer to stay quiet about it; but if the young girl has done anything wrong, she must face the consequences as per the course of the law
