National Kho-Kho Champ Found Dead In Bijnor, Family Alleges Rape: 5 Things To Know

Bijnor sportswoman death: A 24-year-old Dalit woman, identified as a national-level kho kho champion, was found dead last week in Uttar Pradesh's Bijnor, reports said. Her clothes were pulled and she was strangled, her injured body discovered on railway tracks near her home.

The deceased's family is alleging she was raped. A First Information Report (FIR) was filed against unknown person(s) for murder and molestation. The case is of interest to the Government Railway Police, owing to the crime discovery site, and is being probed by the Bijnor police.

As per police, quoted in Indian Express, the woman was found with multiple injuries on her body, strangulation marks, broken teeth and blood around her.

5 Things To Know About Bijnor Sportswoman Death

1. The young sportswoman was working as a teacher at a local government school and was out on Friday for a job interview, according to India TodayHer long absence worried the family, who, unable to reach her phone or contact her, began searching for her.

2. She was found by local passersby near some railway tracks and was brutally injured but still semi-conscious. Eyewitnesses said there was a dupatta around her neck. Her personal documents and other belongings were strewn around her.

3. The family reached the spot, about 30 metres from their house in Kutiya Colony, and identified her.

4. "She is a sportswoman and she must have attempted to fight back," the woman's sister said, alleging that it appears more than one person was involved in the death and that she was raped. The body was sent for post-mortem but rape was ruled out after medical examination, police said.

5. As per Times Nowthe woman was scheduled to get married later this year in November. She had represented states nationally in kho kho and participated in college-level championships too.
