The auto driver identified as Jaheer Pasha, who is a resident of Shammanna Garden in Bengaluru, married Mubeena, a resident of Rehamaniyanagara on BM Road, as per reports. The couple has been married for 15 years, and have five children. Jaheer Pasha is allegedly addicted to pornography, he assumed that she was in a porn movie he watched around 2 months ago.

Reportedly, Jaheer then suspected of infidelity on his wife's part and started harassing her, before allegedly killing her on Sunday, April 17. Allegedly, two months ago Pasha assaulted Muneeba at a family function at Kolar, and other family members also learned the reason behind his harassment. Reports also state that the assault was frequent after that incident and that Mubeena had to be hospitalised 20 days ago after one such episode.

Muneeba’s father Ghouse Pasha, the complainant, had initially approached the police with a complaint against his son-in-law Jaheer. However Mubeena herself had stopped her father from filing the complaint, stated a police officer, who was part of the investigation after the alleged murder.  Revealing more about the murder, the police officer stated-  “At 12.40 am on Sunday, the couple’s first son rushed to his grandfather Ghouse Pasha’s residence, which is close by, and told him that their mother had been stabbed by their father.”

Cases of domestic violence and murder have been on the rise ever since the lockdown happened due to the pandemic. Cases like this have been reported all over the country, from husbands killing their wives during an argument, or on the assumption that their character was questionable. Recently a 46-year-old Nilesh Ghagh, allegedly strangled his wife Nirmala to death, over a salty plate of khichdi, in Thane Maharashtra.

Internalised misogyny and sexism play a huge part when these crimes are concerned. The men feel entitled and feel that a woman’s or more particularly their wife's sole existence is to serve the man of the house. When she fails to follow, she is either abused or straight-up killed. Until keeping their wives in check is seen as a husband's duty, and domestic violence is not taken seriously or condemned by society, it is a known fact that more such crimes will keep occurring.
