Belief In Afterlife Caused Death Of Kerala Couple And Friend

As reported by Onmanorama, according to Arunachal Pradesh Police, the couple, Thomas and Devi checked into a hotel in Itanagar on March 28 along with Arya claiming she was their daughter to the hotel staff and extending their stay upon check-in.

As the three of them did not get out of their rooms for three days, the hotel staff's suspicion grew and a staff member went to check up on them when they found the room unlocked. They found the two females' bodies in the room, while Thomas was found dead in the washroom. They soon recovered a suicide note with contact info. The note, signed by all three, reportedly stated, "We have no debts. We don't have any problems. We are going to the place where we should be."

It was later found that there was also a missing complaint filed for the friend of the couple, Arya, at Vattiyookkavu police station. The investigation regarding that had revealed that Arya had boarded a flight with the Kottayam couple to Guwahati. Authorities were initially baffled by the case, as the couple was known to be happy and there were no signs of financial or marital troubles. However, a closer look at their internet history revealed searches for information on life after death, including YouTube videos.

Police suspect the couple and their friend may have been affiliated with a group that promotes extreme beliefs about the afterlife. The Kerala cyber wing is investigating their online activity to learn more about this potential connection.

The news has come as a shock to the families of the deceased. Devi's father Balan Madhavan, a renowned wildlife photographer expressed his bewilderment at the tragedy and suspects black magic belief as the cause of the tragedy.

The Kottayam couple were married for 13 years and were Ayurveda doctors who left the practice as Thomas started a cake business while Devi started teaching German in a private school in Thiruvananthapuram where she met Arya, a Vattiyookvau native who was a French teacher in the same school.

This case highlights the dangers of fringe beliefs and the importance of critical thinking, especially when it comes to information found online. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are appealing to anyone with information about the group the couple might have been involved with to come forward.
