The accused, Pawan Kalyan stabbed a 19-year-old engineering student to death after she rejected his proposal. The deceased was identified as Layasmitha, a first-year engineering student at Presidency University in Bangalore.

  1. Pawan Kalyan, a BCA student, stabbed 19-year-old Layasmitha to death after she rejected his proposal in Bangalore on Monday.
  2. The accused tried to end his life by stabbing himself in the chest after stabbing the girl.
  3. Layasmitha died on the spot, while the accused is said to be in critical condition.
  4. The incident took place on the campus of the Presidency College around 1 p.m., where Kalyan had come to meet Layasmitha. Kalyan was carrying a knife with him and suddenly stabbed Layasmitha multiple times before stabbing himself. The security guards rushed to the spot and shifted them to a nearby hospital. The doctors declared Layasmitha brought dead, and Kalyan is under treatment.
  5. The deceased is identified as Layasmitha, a first-year engineering student at the presidency college. The accused, Pawan Kalyan, is a first-year BCA student at Nrupathunga University.
  6. Layasmitha belongs to Mulbagal Taluk of Kolar district, 97 kilometres away from Bangalore. She had enrolled for BTech a month ago and was staying at a paying guest facility near the college.
  7. The police stated that Kalyan revealed that he had proposed to Layasmitha, and she declined. Further, she had blocked his number.
  8. According to the deceased's mother, Rajeshwari, the accused Kalyan was a distant relative from her husband's side. Apparently, Layasmitha had called her mother around 8 a.m. as usual and said that Kalyan had been calling her over the phone and she had blocked his number. The deceased's mother was not aware of the proposal, though.
  9. Layasmitha's mother is concerned about how a student from another college was allowed to enter the college campus and why there was no security for students on campus.
  10. According to sources, Kalyan had missed college on Saturday and Monday but had been attending classes on a regular basis since September.
