Athletics Star Shaili Singh Jumps To Finals In U-20 World Championships

Singh known as one of the most talented athletics players of India made her first jump of 6.34m then she scored 5.98m and in the final jump she achieved her best at 6.40m.

Long jumper Shaili Singh achieved the top score of 6.40m at the qualification round of U-20 World Athletics Championships on August 20. Singh made to the finals with her impressive effort.

Singh known as one of the most talented athletics players of India made her first jump of 6.34m then she scored 5.98m and in the final jump she achieved her best at 6.40m.

With her exceptional performances over time, Shaili Singh is expected to bring a medal to India. Although, the finals of the championship is reported to be a tough affair as world's best athletes are going to take part. Maja Askag of Sweden qualified as second best overall after she won Group A with her best jump of 6.30. Brazil's Lissandra Campos sored 6.36m and Jamaica's Shantae Foreman scored 6.27m. All these players have already scored better than 6.40m during the season.

Shaili Singh with her win at the National ( Senior) Inter-state championships in June is currently ranked U-18 World number 2 and she is also the U-20 national record holder. During the Inter-state championships she had scored a long jump of 6.48m. Singh reportedly trains at Anju Bobby George's academy in Bengaluru. Her coach is Anju Bobby George's husband, Bobby George. The bright athletes hails from Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh.

At the U-20 World Athletics Championships, Nandini Agasara also qualified for women's 100m hurdles semifinals after she finished fourth in heat 4 and stood at 21st overall. Pooja in women's 1500m stood 11th in heat 1, Shanmuga Srinivas stood 5th in heat 2 of men's 200m and Tejas Shirse was at 5th spot in heat 3 of men's 110m. None of them made it to the semifinals.

Indian team of Bharat S, Summy, Priya Mohan and Kapil bagged a bronze medal for the country in the 4x400m event. It was the fifth medal won by India in the history of World Athletics Championships.
