Forbes released its list of 12 of Asia’s Power Businesswomen to watch. Forbes calls these women, “Climbing to the top are 12 savvy, ambitious women, some of whom are well on their way to forging stellar reputations in their industries, others still in apprenticeship but learning fast.” Four out of these 12 listed women are Indian: Ameera Shah, Isha Ambani, Radhika Piramal and Samina Vaziralli. Here is a look at these amazing women:
She is the MD & CEO, Metropolis Healthcare, and runs a multinational chain of of 125 diagnostic centers and 800 collection centres around the world. When asked if she is content with her achievements in an interview with SheThePeople.TV, she said, “Being content is a mark of maturity but that does not mean one stops having dreams or aspirations…We are already the most respected and leading chain of laboratories in a lot of emerging markets. Going forward, our focus will be to enter newer markets and expand our presence in existing markets.”
Samina is being groomed by YK Hamied, Cipla’s Chairperson, to lead the company forward in the coming future. In an interview with the Economic Times in November last year, he said, “I’ve not said publicly so far, but I’ll like to see in a year or two Kamil (33) and Samina (38) on the Cipla board — I’m grooming them. They are the future of the company, at least from the promoters’ side… They are not only bright, their thinking is like my thinking — very national minded, what is best in India’s interest.” Today, Samina runs strategic projects for its in-house venture capital unit and also co-leads the consumer healthcare business.
Being the daughter of the richest man in India is not the only thing that makes you envy Isha Ambani. All of 23, she was named to the telecom and retail units’ boards in October. She is a Yale alumina with a double major in psychology and South Asian studies. Her achievements may not be as extensive as Ameera Shah or Samina Vaziralli, but as Forbes mentions, she is definitely someone, who we need to look out for as she is seems eager to follow the footsteps of her parents and grandfather.
Just 36 years old, Radhika Piramal is the Managing Director of VIP Industries (luggage). Having taken over in 2010, she has managed to rope in top Bollywood stars to promote her brand, which in turn has served very well for her business. The brand is the market leader in India today and it seems like Piramal’s efforts will ensure it stays there.
