Former WWE superstar Ashley Massaro reportedly died at her Long Island home after battling with depression for years. Suicide is the reported cause of her death.

Ashley Massaro had competed in WWE from years 2005 to 2008. According to the Suffolk County Police, she has died due to non-criminal causes. She died, aged only 39 just 10 days before her 40th birthday, after being taken to the hospital from her house. 

“My best friend from the wrestling business died from suicide two days after responding to 300+ fan letters,” pal Shelly Martinez said in a statement to The Blast.

Ashley had started participating in the WWE after she won the WWE Diva Search in the year 2005. After her death was made public, several wrestlers took to social media to offer their condolences to her.

She was planning to make a comeback to WWE. Initially, after having spent around two years in the WWE ring she had joined the fifteenth season of CBS's Survivor filmed in China in 2007. After a year, she quit participating in the WWE.

WWE says its “saddened to learn of the tragic death of former Superstar Ashley Massaro” and offers its condolences to her family.

Most people are not aware of the fact that she had been suffering from depression. The one-time “Survivor” contestant had been open about her mental health — and previously blamed bouts of depression on injuries she suffered during her wrestling career.

She leaves behind her 18 year old daughter. Her daughter has appeared on the cover of the playboy magazine and was also a contestant in Survivor.

Alexa, her daughter wrote in a post on Instagram,  “I love you mommy I want to wake up in your arms more than anything I want to give u a big hug please come back this can’t be real. Please god this can't be it.” She posted a childhood picture alongside her post.

Ashley Massaro has been able to achieve so much, and was even planning a comeback into wrestling. Her death is being grieved by one and all, and she will always be remembered. Her amazing achievements in WWE, being brave by opening up about her depression are all being remembered.
