Actress Anushka Sharma has responded to reports that the individuals of the selection committee were busy attending to her throughout the 2019 World Cup. Farokh Engineer, a former Indian wicketkeeper, had stated in an interview that he had seen selectors serving Anushka cups of tea. However, the wife of Indian captain Virat Kohli took to Twitter to clarify and debunk all the rumours floating around.

A member of the selection panel also furiously denied the allegation when reached by PTI and Sharma published a statement, declaring that she would not let her name be dragged into contentions linking to Indian cricket anymore.

The selection committee member said anonymously that during the World Cup, none of the selectors were seated at the box where the Indian captain's wife was seated. And that it was an utterly nonsensical, malicious and defamatory assertion.

Anushka's statement on Twitter

On Twitter, Anushka posted the statement in which she also cited multiple controversies in the past. She said that the latest version of these ill-intended lies was that the selectors were serving her tea at World Cup matches. She also clarified that she went for one game of the World Cup and was seated in the family box and not the selector's box as reported, further adding that the truth never matters when it is about convenience.

Anushka added that if one wants to comment on the selection committee and their qualifications, one is welcome to do so as it's their opinion. However, dragging her name into it to substantiate their claims is malicious. She further said that she refuses to allow anyone from using her name in such conversations.

"I have stayed silent through all the times I was accused for the performance of my then-boyfriend, now-husband Virat. And I have been forced to take the blame for the most baseless matters concerning Indian cricket, " also adding, "My name has been wrongfully used to say how I have been given preferential treatment, or how I have overstayed my allowed time with my husband on foreign travels. If anyone cared about finding facts from the board, would know that I always have followed protocol." Sharma said she has been buying her own flight tickets to be with Kohli, who also in the past has called the accusations against his wife a "shame".

Clarifying controversies once and for all

Anushka, in her latest statement, slammed another media report which led to BCCI being criticised for letting her be a part of a Team India group photograph with the Indian High Commissioner in the United Kingdom last year."I was asked to be in the group photograph by the High Commissioner's wife. After which a huge issue was generated over this. They blamed me for deliberately wanting to be part of it and the said event. Even despite the fact that I was invited for it," she stated.

She also wrote that she "would not be a pawn to be used by anyone's thought or beliefs or agendas." And if next time anyone wants to use her name to discredit the board or even her husband, can do it with facts and evidence, leaving her out of it.

She made it clear that since she made had built her own career with utmost dignity, she was not going to compromise that for anything. "Maybe, it's difficult for some to learn that, because, I am a self-made, self-sufficient woman who also happens to be the wife of a cricket person.... and for the record, I drink coffee."
