Anjan Das Murder Delhi

In East Delhi's Pandav Nagar area, a family which looked as normal as one can be from the outside was undertaking a harrowing crime within the four walls of the house and no one outside held a clue about it. A woman, and her son from the previous marriage, allegedly murdered her spouse Anjan Das back in June and chopped him into pieces and disposed of the body parts around the Pandav Nagar region over the course of a few months.

The Delhi Police arrested the woman and her son in connection to the case and retrieved a confession on the same. The woman, Poonam, alleged that she was furious on learning that her spouse, Anjan Das had sold her jewellery and sent all the money to his first spouse, who resided in Bihar with their children. Poonam told the police that Das harassed her and was abusive and that she took help from her son, Deepak, to finish Das's chapter once and for all and undertook this gruesome crime. She hatched a murder plan with Deepak, whose father had died of cancer earlier, post which Poonam started living with Das. Deepak confessed to his crime in front of the police alleging that Das used to torture Poonam and therefore his motive to kill him stemmed from that.

"Murdered Das in June"

The accused told Delhi Police that they had murdered Das back in June itself and stored his body parts in the fridge at their home in Pandav Nagar. They undertook the murder by first spiking his drink and then killing him while he was unconscious. The two chopped the body and disposed of the pieces slowly in between gaps. The police disclosed they have recovered six body pieces so far.

The Crime branch scanned the CCTV footage in and around the Pandav Nagar Area and found both Poona and Deepak on camera with plastic bags from time to time. The crime only came to notice after Anjan Das had been missing for six months.

Speaking at a press conference Monday, DCP (crime) Amit Goel said, “On June 5, some body parts were recovered at Ramlila Maidan in the east district. In the next three days, two legs, two thighs, a skull and a forearm were recovered, and a case was filed.”

He said police later identified the body as Anjan Das after analysing CCTV footage and conducting door-to-door verification.

“A further investigation revealed that Das had been missing for the past five-six months and that there was no missing complaint filed by the family members. This created suspicion in our minds and his wife Poonam and son Deepak were picked up. They confessed to his murder on questioning. We also found footage of them walking towards different areas after the incident,” said Goel.
