Before the CEO of Mahindra, Manoj Kumar, CEO of the Naandi Foundation, posted about the success of Preethi, Kumar wrote how, in the year 2016, young Preethi was chosen from the Nanhi Kali initiative started by Mahindra himself in 1996 to educate unprivileged girls. Young Preethi got selected for getting sailing training through the initiative.

In the original tweet it was mentioned," This is one of the most inspiring stories I have read in the recent times. What are the chances that an 8th grade girl in a government school living in a low-income community in Hyderabad who never put foot in a water body, to be Captain of India’s Sailing Team?"

Preethi Kongara bagged a gold medal with three points in the Asian Games sailing trials held in the Bombay Harbour, last year in November. She won the gold in the senior division of the Olympic 470 mixed class of boat, she now holds the highest spot in India for the Olympic Mixed Double 470 Class boat along with Sudanshu Shekhar, who is an Indian Navy officer. She began sailing at the age of 10 at the Yacht Club of Hyderabad, which proves that sports fight poverty and encourage diversity as well as inclusivity.

Preethi Kongara got highly praised by many people for her exceptional talent and performance in such a challenging sport, one user commented on the tweet, "Such a Great Success Story" while the other wrote, “Wow. This is really so inspiring.”
