Amrita Dhawan Appointed As President Of Delhi Pradesh Mahila Congress

Congress Party appointed Amrita Dhawan as the President of Delhi Pradesh Mahila Congress- wing. Dhawan replaces Sharmistha Mukherjee, daughter of Late President Pranab Mukherjee. All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary KC Venugopal made the announcement of her appointment.

Who is Amrita Dhawan

Amrita Dhawan, former councillor and Delhi University Student Union (DUSU) president, thanked the party and its leaders for her appointment. She took to social media to express her gratitude towards party leaders:

Dhawan, a law graduate from Delhi University, won the DUSU elections in the year 2006. She also contested in the 2013 assembly election from Tilak Nagar seat but couldn't secure a win. Dhawan is also the spokesperson of the Delhi Congress. She won the municipal election from Vikaspuri East ward in 2012.

Congress thanks Sharmistha Mukherjee

Mukherjee was appointed as Delhi Mahila Congress chief in January 2018. The party appreciated her contribution in the official announcement made on Thursday, that was also shared on Twitter.

In a tweet Sharmistha thanked the party and its leaders for their support, she wrote, "I wud like 2 thank Hon’ble Congress President, Shri Rahul Gandhi  & Sushmita Dev 4 having given me the opportunity 2 serve as Delhi Pradesh Mahila Congress President. It was a great learning experience for me. I’ll continue to serve the party & be available 4 any work the party deems fit me for."

In another tweet, Mukherjee congratulated Amrita Dhawan and called her an appropriate successor, "Congratulations Amrita Dhawan. I’m really glad that you are my successor & am absolutely sure that you will take DPMC to great heights."
