Allahabad HC Defends Inter-Faith Couple, Says Nobody Entitled To Interfere In Their Life

After perusing certificates that verified that the petitioners were adults, the Court directed the police to provide protection to the young couple, if necessary.

During a hearing on inter-faith marriage, Allahabad High Court came in the defence of an adult couple. The court pronounced that nobody is entitled to interfere in the peaceful life of two adults. The court gave out this statement while hearing the case of a couple where a Hindu woman had embraced Islam before her marriage to a Muslim man.

The couple approached the High Court bringing forth that they both were being harassed by their family members. The court noted that nobody can impede the lives of two adult individuals who have taken up the decision of living together. This statement was brought up while directing that police protection should be granted if it is necessary to a couple that had married outside their own religion.

Justice Saral Srivastava reiterated that the court has at multiple times held that in a case where the two individuals are above 18 and are living together, no one is entitled to interfere in their untroubled and pleasant lives.

The couple claimed that they are adults and are staying together out of their own will and nobody has forced them for doing so. It was brought to the notice of the court that the woman voluntarily converted to Islam before the marriage. To present the proof of their age in the High Court, the petitioners submitted their High School mark sheet along with their Aadhar card.

After perusing certificates that verified that the petitioners were adults, the Court directed the police to provide protection to the young couple, if necessary. Moreover, the court has directed the husband to register a fixed deposit of Rs. 3 lakhs in his wife's name by the next date of the hearing which is on February 2, 2021.
