The internet can be an interesting place to be in, especially in these times when there's so much new information and ideas surfacing like never before. For artists, it's like a minefield to explore. While combining art and Artificial Intelligence sounds interesting, there’s less relevant work with respect to it.

Recently, an artist Madhav Kohli decided to bring forward his work on his social media page, which stemmed from AI and depicted a stereotypical representation of people across different states.

From Kashmir to Uttarakhand, Goa to Mumbai, and Assam to Punjab among other states, Kohli created images of both men and women from all Indian states. Each portrait showcases typical nuances of how people associate what men and women in that state typically look like.

Stereotypical representation

While a large number of social media users appreciated the AI generated images of Indians, it did not go down well with some people who took offence at how people from their states were depicted in the images. After the images created a stir across the internet, Kohli took to his Twitter to voice how he made the concept clear before sharing images, and that it wasn't attributed towards insulting any particular state.

People expressed how they were in awe of his work and the intention behind the art while some heavily criticised him for the images. He decided to take a screenshot of what stereotype typically meant and shared it on his Twitter page informing the users that that exactly was his intention.
