In a video that surfaced on August 19, afghan women were seen leading the protests in Kabul on Afghanistan's independence day. They were seen sloganeering on the megaphone and encouraging people to do so while Taliban fighters watched them from distance. Several moving images of women wearing the flag of Afghanistan on August 19 protests have also emerged.

The said video was posted by Jordan Bryon, a filmmaker in Afghanistan, on Twitter. He posted a thread with three videos from the protests in Kabul. In his caption, Bryon wrote, "Independence day protest in #kabul. Women and girls, men and boys screaming LONG LIVE #Afghanistan OUR NATIONAL FLAG IS OUR IDENTITY! They marched past #Taliban with some Talibs screaming back at protestors, waving their guns at them but finally the protestors passed."

He added that one Taliban fighter was about to shoot a protestor but he stopped as another fighter held his gun. As per media reports, many civilians lost their lives during the protests as a massive crowd had emerged on the streets. Some were also shot dead by the Taliban fighters.

Social media users moved by the images praised the Afghan women protestors for their courage. One user wrote, "This footage is the brightest beacon of hope for all Afghans and those who want to see peace there. No one is going to resolve the Afghan puzzle but Afghans themselves. This is the time to rise & take control of their life."

According to a source, the US troops are still present in Afghanistan guarding the Kabul International airport. The Afghan women were seen pleading with the troops to let them enter the airport in a viral video first published by the DailyMail.

Earlier this week, journalist Masih Alinejad had shared a video in which Afghan women were seen on the streets in Kabul with placards in their hands. The Taliban fighters could also be seen in the video, watching them from afar.
