Given Clean Chit, Professor Now Faces Abuse Allegation By 500 Girls

In a shocking case, 500 students of a college in Haryana have written a letter to the Chief Minister accusing their professor of sexual harassment. The letter also addresses the women's commission and the governor. The girls belong to the Chaudhary Devi Lal University in Sirsa and this is the fourth time that they are writing a letter against the misconduct of the professor. The letter accused the professor of calling the girls to his chamber and touching them inappropriately for days. The letter was written on Thursday and since then it has been making rounds of social media. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been set up to probe the allegations. The officials also added that when the colleagues of the professor were asked to report for investigations, many of them skipped the session.

Deepti Garg, the ASP has said that the police will register an FIR after a preliminary investigation. She said that she would investigate the letter first and then take action based on the findings. 

The professor on the other hand has completely denied the allegations and called them politically motivated. He said, "I am being targeted because I have been active in some work at the university. I am ready to face any probe against me. This is nothing but political vendetta." 

In the letter, the girls said, "He calls us individually to his office bathroom and touches us inappropriately. When we protested against this, he threatened us with dire consequences." It further stated that the professor has destroyed every evidence including CCTV footage.

"We have no faith in the university. Please help us get justice. Please get this professor removed and appoint someone else," the girls wrote. "We can't write our names and contact numbers as it will malign our image if no action is taken against the professor. The dignity of our family will be at stake. He has threatened to get us expelled if we speak against him. He has enough political influence."

The professor was given a clean chit twice

As mentioned earlier, this is the fourth letter of sexual harassment allegation. All the letters were sent from Khairpur Post Office on Hisar Road. The first letter was addressed to the VC of the University in June last year. The VC then asked the internal complaints committee to probe the allegations. But it didn't find any evidence against the professor. In November and December again the letter was sent to the governor. The governor asked the University to look into it and eventually, the University granted a clean chit to the professor. 

Rajesh Bansal, the University Registrar confirmed about receiving such letters earlier also. He said, "Our internal probe found the allegations baseless. But since the letter now mentions 500 girls, police and the university are taking a relook at the matter."
