On August 21, the woman filed an official complaint to the police alleging that Jitendra Narain and RL Rishi raped her. She reported that she was raped on two days in April and May.

The Port Blair Police had filed an FIR on October 1 in the case, after which the Central government suspended Narain immediately on October 17. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has demanded strict action against the IAS officer. A week after his suspension, the Calcutta High Court ordered Narain to appear to inform of the SIT and cooperate with the crucial investigation.

The woman has alleged that she was lured with a promise of a government job to the then Chief Secretary's home in Andaman, and she was later raped on April 14 and May 1 by both Narain and RL Rishi.

On Monday, the BJP's Mahila Morcha wing staged a protest at the Police Lines during Narain's questioning. They shouted slogans against the officer while holding black flags and placards, expressing their anger and disappointment. Morcha Chief Sampa Banerjee told the media that their protest was against such acts carried out by senior bureaucrats in the islands. "This our fight. We will continue fighting to protect the respect and dignity of our local women here on the islands. We also demand strict action against everyone named in the FIR if they are found guilty," she said.

Apart from Narain and RL Rishi, a police officer has also been named in the FIR, as per reports. On November 4, the Supreme Court is likely to hear the Andaman and Nicobar Islands administration's plea challenging anticipatory bail that has been granted to Jitendra Narain by the Delhi High Court.
