According to the complaint registered by the girl’s father, the accused named Arvind Singh sneaked into his daughter’s room through the terrace. Holding her at gunpoint, he took her to the terrace and allegedly raped her. When she made attempts to get away, he threw her off the terrace and fled, the complainant claimed. The girl’s condition is "critical", as per her family.

“Her backbone is fractured, she had head injuries. The district hospital had referred her to the Lala Lajpat Rai Medical College in Meerut. My parents are taking her there now. I am hopelessly worried about her,” said the survivor's brother. Worried about the medical expenses he further added, “We have not been doing well financially. In these three days we could not take the sugarcane we had harvested to the mill and now the factory would not take it,” reported TOI.

An FIR was registered in the case on the same day. However, the survivor's father claims it did not include rape charges and included only attempt to outrage modesty, trespass, and voluntarily causing hurt. He further alleges that his complaint was also changed at the police station, to say that Arvind Singh “molested” his daughter. According to the girl’s father, the police also made him sign a blank piece of paper before filing the complaint.

Rape charges have now been added to the FIR and the police have arrested the accused who was sent to jail on Wednesday. “We are investigating if the complaint was changed at the police station,” Moradabad SP Vidya Sagar Mishra said.

The incident comes to light days after the shocking gangrape and murder of a 50-year-old woman in Badaun, UP. An FIR was registered on Tuesday evening and three people, including a priest and his two disciples, have been arrested in connection with the case. The deceased woman, who was an Anganwadi worker had sustained several injuries including broken ribs, fractured legs and her lungs were attacked with a heavy object, as per the post mortem report. Her private parts were “severely brutalised” as well. Read more about the incident here.
