Virat Kohli, in the very beginning of this journey, took an unconventional step of taking paternity leave while the Indian team was on a tour Australia. However, the nation was divided over the subject as a major faction questioned his decision to “skip national duty”, while the others praised his decision.

Since Kohli's decision stirred up the public, he had to make his stance clear in an announcement shared by the BCCI on Twitter.

"I wanted to be back home in time to be with my wife for the birth of our first child and it is a very very special and very very beautiful moment in our lives and something I truly want to experience," the skipper said.

During an interaction on Forbes India Leadership Awards 2021, the Indian skipper spoke up prior to the birth of his first child and declared he’ll cherish this experience for the rest of his life.

“I would not have missed it for anything in the world. Unless you are there, you cannot understand the impact it has on you as a human being to witness the life being born and your own child, it’s something magical,” Kohli, who chose to go on paternity leave after the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
