2024 wasn’t just about fashion; it was the year accessories truly elevated every look. From statement pieces to subtle accents, here’s one of our favourite hair accessories of the year:
Diadems
What made a comeback in 2024? Diadems! While the year embraced beiges and minimalism, it was Shalini Passi who brought these iconic pieces back into the spotlight. The socialite, known for her appearance in Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives Season 3, donned a stunning diadem from her personal jewel collection.
Shalini’s elegant white ensemble, paired with a delicately beaded diadem, exuded Egyptian royalty vibes. Her look redefined luxury, proving that she’s nothing short of royalty when it comes to fashion.
Bows
Bows have been all the rage in 2024, with everyone from little girls to adults adorning their hair with little ribbons. In India, Deepika Padukone chose an adorable black bow to go with her billowing black gown, elevating her simple look to a different level of elegance. She is not the one who set the trend for bows but her chic styling made the look iconic, especially among adult women.
More celebrities who popularised the new look this year are Khushi Kapoor, who went with a similar look as Deepika and Hailey Bieber who tried an adorable double ponytail look with tiny pink ribbons. Bows are not just pink and hyper-feminine (although there is nothing wrong with that!); the different materials and colours can be incorporated into unique styles.
Maang Tikka
While the Maang Tikka might feel like a forgotten piece of jewellery, Sobhita Dhulipala brought it back into the spotlight. She wore a golden Maang Tikka during her Pelli Kuthuru ceremony—a traditional South Indian pre-wedding ritual celebrating the bride’s transition into married life. Her look proved that timeless classics never go out of style.
For centuries, Maang Tikkas have held a special place in Indian jewellery. Beyond their aesthetic appeal, they carry deep cultural and spiritual significance. Adorning the forehead chakra, often called the “third eye,” Maang Tikkas symbolize the power of the soul and the inner self.
Passa
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi ruled 2024, captivating viewers with its opulence and grandeur. Among the many elements that enchanted the audience were the intricate shararas, exuding an air of royalty. While the vibrant colors and magnificent sets added charm to the show, it was the Passa—subtly adorning each female character—that became the crown jewel of its visual allure.
Whether in the intimate mehfil scenes or moments of rebellion, the Passa consistently upheld the show's regal aesthetic. Known also as a jhumar or side maang tikka, the Passa encapsulates feminine delicacy, or nazakat, effortlessly merging tradition with timeless elegance.
Claw Clips
Claw clips, also known as clutches, made a huge comeback in 2024, solidifying their status as a must-have accessory not only for the trend but also for the utility. These clips, originally popularized in the 1990s and early 2000s, saw a modern revival as fashion trends leaned heavily into nostalgic aesthetics and clean, effortless looks. From Bella Hadid to Hailey Bieber and Kendall Jenner to Cara Delevignge, all the top supermodels were seen adorning their hair with claw clips that gave their model-off-duty looks a functional yet classy twist.
Beret Caps
Will Emily move to Italy and find her happily ever after with Marcello? Or will Gabriel manage to win her back and keep her in Paris? Fans will only find out when Season 5 airs on Netflix. While the anticipation builds, one thing is clear—Emily’s beret caps have officially become a style icon.
Often referred to as the French Cap or Artist Cap, berets are now serving major style goals, redefining chic with their timeless appeal. Whether paired with bold outfits or classic ensembles, Emily's berets have added a touch of Parisian flair that fans can’t get enough of.
