The occupational therapist knew the importance of having a well-fitting bicycle helmet. She said, "I was frustrated that there wasn't a safe option in sports helmets for my kids".

Sikh Woman Designs Helmets For Her Children

Singh designed what she described as the first safety-certified multisport helmet specifically designed for children like hers.

She spent more than two years working on and testing various versions of the helmet. Now, the helmets are in production and certified for use with bicycles, skateboards, inline skates, and kick scooters for children over the age of five.

In December 2022, the helmet received a passing grade from the international testing company SGS.

On her Instagram page, she described herself as "a mom who took a leap of faith to do something valuable for my kids".

The helmets have a dome portion on top to accommodate a turban and fit the way a helmet should.

Balpreet Singh, legal counsel for the World Sikh Organisation of Canada spoke with CBC Toronto and said the helmet is a "welcome step". He added, "I think this is definitely one more options that Sikh families can consider and definitely long overdue."
