Amidst all that happens in our life, good or bad, food is something that remains constant. From being happy to being anxious or sad, binge eating is something that all of us can relate to. However, like other aspects of society, food choices to keep on evolving. “Whether you're married or in a complicated relationship, the one constant relation we have is with food," says Shivani Mohan at the Women Writers Fest 2019, Hyderabad Chapter. The topic for panel discussion was: Food Trends 2020: From Kombucha To Keto. The panel was moderated by Shivani Mohan, Storyteller and Hospitality Influencer and the speakers included Seetha Anand Vaidyam, Tara Deshpande and Anupama Dalmia.

Food Is Known To Build Communities

“Even in a family of four, each individual might have a different choice when it comes to food. Yet food is known to have built communities. It creates memories. And between all these, there are food trends. The trends through which food evolves over time due to various factors like travel, globalisation, and environmental concerns,” adds Shivani.

Seetha Anand, who has done extensive research on the effects of food on the learning abilities of children, says, “A large number of people in our country are unhealthy and food is something which can change this. So healthy food is here to stay. What is local, what is seasonal, is healthy.”

Anupama Dalmia, a blogger-entrepreneur at Hyderabad, says, “What I've actually seen, even with respect to the viewers that we have on our site, people are now trying to cook more at home. They're trying to keep it simple. And even the recipes that we share, those are simple, the ingredients are easily available.  So there's definitely this trend where food which is cooked by ourselves and we know that it is healthy, we are satisfied with it.”

The Trend Of Experimenting With Food

“I think multi-cuisine is most famous at hotels and what we eat at hotels is not authentic at all. There's a lot out there which in this multi-cuisine process has become generic,” says Tara Deshpande, actress, and model and a passionate cook.

Raw Foods: Way To Ensure Healthy Lifestyle

“It is really easy to stay healthy if 40-50 percent of your diet includes raw foods. Moreover, the diversity of food we have is incomparable. For example, just a single fruit- Jackfruit alone has around 300 varieties. The colours and properties of these are just so diverse. It is so important to get to this statement that Healthy food is delicious. You need to shun away what is not healthy,” adds Seetha.

It's Not Impossible To Get Children To Eat Healthily

“I work with schools. The bulk of my work is related to schools and one thing we encourage is-having single meals together in class, and even at homes. Then, when you cook something like Bottle gourd or Snake gourd, something that's not really appetizing, you'll be amazed that children would want to eat it only because they've cut it or they have been a part of the process. So it becomes really interesting for them to eat it, try it out.” with this she rounded off the amazing conversation.
