Dreams add purpose to our lives. They give us a reason behind waking up every day and putting even more effort into reaching our goals than the day before. And then, at a certain point in your life, these dreams go on to define you. At SheThePeople Summit Online, Raina Raonta, video producer and social media manager at SheThePeople was in conversation with actor Kubbra Sait about dreams, and how to reach for them.

Speaking on how the actor is spending the days during the lockdown, Kubbra says, "There hasn't been a better time when I actually sat down and enjoyed chai. And I'm grateful to have looked out of the window in my room with a cup of chai. This is something I've been thinking of doing for the last two years when I moved into this house."

Mom's Instrumental Role In Her Life

Kubbra credits her mom for her success. "My mother was a housewife before she got out and started working. If she had not pushed herself out of her boundaries, and if she had not decided to get out of her comfort zone, I don't think we would've been able to get out of our comfort zone. My mom has jumped every hurdle and helped us to do so and that's how she raised us. We were raised to be very tough," she says.

My mom always had faith in me when I lost faith in myself.

"Like every other parent, my mom thought that Bombay was a city of monsters, demons and that I won't be safe here. But when I settled down, that is when she developed that faith, that if I have been able to construct something out of nothing, I would be able to do that anywhere else in the world. So it was simple - if I wanted to achieve something in life, I had to prove that I'm worthy of trust. Most of us have a dream, but we don't really take the efforts to convince the people closest to us that this dream is valuable for us," she adds.

Take Calculated Risks

Trying something new is definitely not wrong. What is wrong is not setting up alternate plans. This is why Kubbra suggests taking calculated risks. "Children should realize that they should be able to take responsibility for their actions. And be like - If I fail, this is gonna be my failure, and this is my calculated risk. If I'm not gonna make it in six months, I'm gonna have scenario A, scenario B, scenario C, scenario D. So, if you want to try something new, please make sure that you have blueprints. Take calculated risks in your life," she says.

Adding on how she went on to take a calculated risk, she says, "I sat with my mum at a restaurant in Dubai and I wrote my strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. And I still have it with me. You need to be honest when you're asking yourself questions. The minute you decide that this is not my chosen path and it's something else that I want to pursue, then you need to understand that you need to have a framework to get this through. Do not get attracted to the field of art because it is glamorous. You'll will get to that level, but you have to tough it out. Nothing comes easy."
