Sharing photos from her shoot, Gautam writes her decision to keep her real self on-screen came "just when they were about to go in for post-production" to "conceal" her condition.

"I've dealt with it for many years now and today finally, I decided to let go of all my fears and insecurities and found the courage to love and accept my ‘flaws’ wholeheartedly... I didn't feel like airbrushing my folliculitis or smoothing that ‘under-eye’ or ‘shaping up’ that waist a tiny bit more! And yet, I feel beautiful :)"

Know What Is Keratosis Pilaris And How To Identify It

According to the National Health Portal (NHP), keratosis pilaris is an autosomal genetic disease that involves keratin protein to form "hard plugs within hair follicles." As a result, rough, red bumps appear visibly on the skin, most commonly on outer arm areas. It is a common condition that affects about 40 percent of adults worldwide, studies say.

People with dry skin are more prone to keratosis pilaris. The skin bumps caused by the disease are painless and resemble gooseflesh. The condition worsens in low humidity and winter seasons. Gentle exfoliation of the skin is often advised as a method to tackle the bumps, though experts suggest keratosis pilaris clears up by itself.

Though there is no solid cure for keratosis pilaris, Gautam gives assurance that the bumps "aren’t as bad as your mind and your neighbor aunty makes it out to be."

In recent times, Gautam has consistently won hearts by keeping it candid and real on social media. When pictures of the Vicky Donor actor's marriage surfaced this year in June, the internet couldn't keep calm for the sweet simplicity of the celebration as opposed to the dazzle and glam one is used to witnessing at celebrity weddings.

Netizens and Gautam's friends from the film industry alike gushed over the traditional, old-school charm of her ceremonies that took place amidst close family in her home state of Himachal Pradesh.
