Sharing a stunning picture for herself on Insta, Zeenat Aman wrote, "At the risk of sounding like an old lady suffocating on her tablets, allow me to share with you what happened last night."

"I couldn’t swallow it or spit it out," she shared, adding that her only company at home at the time was her pet. Repeated calls to her doctor went unanswered, prompting her to call her son actor Zahan Khan, who rushed to assist. The tablet became lodged in her throat, making it difficult to breathe. Despite drinking water repeatedly, the tablet remained stuck, leaving her panicked.

Once Zahan arrived, they managed to contact the doctor, who reassured them that the tablet would dissolve over time. Following the advice, Aman sipped warm water, and eventually, the tablet dissolved, ending the distressing episode.

She took this incident as a testimony of "lesson in patience and resilience," emphasising that not every problem has an immediate solution. "Sometimes it's important to tackle an issue head-on. To confront, challenge, change. But sometimes a situation requires those other softer acts of patience, restraint and equanimity," she added.

What to do in such situations?

Experts say getting a pill stuck in your throat is usually not concerning. Drinking more water can help it slide down. However, if you can’t breathe, the pill may be in your airway, so seek immediate medical help.

Speaking to The Indian ExpressDr Basavaraj S Kumbar, a consultant of internal medicine, at Aster Whitefield Hospital, Bengaluru, said that the first thing to do in these situations is not to panic, regardless of how hard that might be. “There will be some discomfort and pain since something is stuck in the throat, and you’ll feel a choking sensation. The body will react by salivating and coughing to trigger the cough reflex- its natural response whenever it experiences any obstruction, to dislodge the capsule.”
