Yellowstone Season Five: What Does The Future Hold For Kayce And Monica's Relationship?

The last season of American drama series Yellowstone left off on a difficult note for Kayce and Monica, played by actors Luke Grimes and Kelsey Asbille. Their marriage hit a strain, with consequences for their son Tate as well. So what can fans expect to see between the couple in the upcoming fifth season of the show?

Kayce revealed to Monica in the fourth season, following one of his hallucinations brought on by post-traumatic disorder (PTSD) from his former Navy SEAL life, that he saw "the end" of them, leaving fans scratching their heads. The couple had anyway diverged from Kayce's Dutton family. Could this new development compound their problems?

Fans debating on the internet seem to think that the end, as signalled by Kayce, could either refer to him and his wife or even mean an irreversible schism in the Dutton family. Which one will it be? Either would mean heartbreak for fans.

A Little Background, For The Uninitiated...

Kayce Dutton is the son of Yellowstone lead protagonist John Dutton, played by veteran actor Kevin Costner. One of three brothers, Kayce initially lived with his wife, a Native American woman, and child away from the family Yellowstone ranch on the Broken Rock Indian Reservation. Kayce's service in Pakistan left him with PTSD after he killed an innocent family in combat.

In an episode of the Official Yellowstone Podcast, Grimes, discussing his character Kayce Dutton, said the audience was "going to watch this guy finally make a decision," as quoted in Cheatsheet. 

The previous fourth season of the Western drama premiered on Paramount Network in November 2021. It had ten episodes and much to the delight of fans, when the show was renewed for a fifth season this year, it was announced that the upcoming release would bring a total of 14 episodes.
