Women Centric Regional Films: The regional film industry underwent a significant shift in the previous decade, from male superstar smashes to more female-led movies. Women's empowerment and feminism as a theme have touched these industries as well, as more and more movies about women are slated to release in the upcoming months of 2021.

Content-driven films in regional languages such as Assamese, Bengali, Malayalam, Marathi, or Telugu are progressing prolifically and can compete with Bollywood films straight on in terms of strong female representation, dialogues, acting, and cinematography.  

Here are some of the upcoming women-centric regional flicks you must keep an eye for. 

Good Luck Sakhi (Telugu)

Nagesh Kukunoor's next Telugu-language sports romance comedy film Good Luck Sakhi is slated to release on August 3 2021. Keerthy Suresh, Aadhi Pinisetty, and Jagapathi Babu will appear in lead roles in the movie. Sakhi, played by Keerthy Suresh, is  a girl who brings ill luck to everyone, and her fiancé dies in an accident just before their wedding. She then goes on to train as a sharpshooter in order to participate at the national level. Good Luck Sakhi also features Rahul Ramakrishna in a supporting role.

Page 4 (Marathi)

Page 4 is a Marathi film that will be released in October 2021. Depti Devi, Vibhavari Deshpande, and Bhargavi Chirmule will star in the film in lead roles. The film, which is directed by Jaydeep Yeole, will chronicle the journey of these four friends and exhibit how negative circumstances shape their lives. Saurabh Gokhale, Omkar Govardhan, and Girish Pardeshi are among the other well-known performers who have been cast in the film. 

Netrikann (Tamil)

Netrikann, a Tamil thriller starring Nayanthara and directed by Milind Rau, will be available to watch on Disney+ Hotstar VIP. According to sources, the film is based on the Korean thriller Blind, which tells the story of a visually impaired woman who testifies in a hit-and-run case only to be met by the killer afterwards. Ajmal Ameer, Manikandan Pattambi, and Saran play key parts in Netrikann, in addition to Nayanthara.

Raangi (Tamil)

Raangi is Actor Trisha's highly-anticipated action film and is rumoured to hit theatres in 2021. According to current reports, the film will be released on a prominent OTT platform. The actress performed some heavy-duty action feats in the film's teaser, which was released more than a year ago. Lyca Productions is financing the film, which also features Malayalam actress Anaswara Rajan in a key role.

Nene Naa (Telugu)

Best known for Ninu Veedani Needanu Nene, Caarthick Raju is directing a female-centric film with Regina Cassandra as the leading lady. The shooting of this Tamil Telugu bilingual, which is billed as a mystery thriller, has recently resumed in rural Tamil Nadu. The Awe actress will play an archaeologist in the film.
