The veteran actor and classical dancer Bela Bose appeared in a number of movies during the 1960s before becoming well-known across the country for her heartwarming performance in the 1975 hit movie Jai Santoshi Maa.

Who Was Bela Bose?

Bela Bose, who was born in Calcutta (currently Kolkata), was raised in a wealthy family before a financial crisis wiped out their wealth and forced them to move to Mumbai and then Bombay. She began her career as a group dancer in movies after her father passed away in order to provide for her family, and she later took on more roles in films once she finished school in the 1960s.

Before making her first significant breakthrough when she performed a dance number with Raj Kapoor in the 1959 film Main Nashe Mein Hoon and began to be recognised in the Hindi film industry, she played the role of a glamorous dancer, seen in the background of Helen and Aruna Irani, among others, in numerous films such as Bhagam Bhag and CID.
