1883 is among the three spin-offs scheduled for the popular sitcom Yellowstone, the other two being 1932 and 6666. The series features the roots of the Duttons, their ancestors who took up the ownership of the land in Montana that later became the largest ranch of the place, The Yellowstone. The Dutton's generation after the Civil War decides to move from Tennesee and embark on a journey towards Fort Worth, Texas. Along with a group of European emigrants, the Duttons travel to Oregon after which they settle in Montana. The series aired from December 19, 2021 to February 27, 2022.

1883 is created by Taylor Sheridan, creator of Yellowstone and the cast includes Tim McGrow as John Dutton's great-great grandfather, James Dutton, Faith Hill as Margaret Dutton, his wife (John's great-great-grandmother), Isabel May as Elsa Dutton, their daughter and Audie Rick as John Dutton Senior, their son. The show also featured Sam Elliot, LaMonica Garrett, Marc Rissmann and Eric Nelsen in pivotal roles.
