The show Cartel is the story of five crime lords in Mumbai. The five gangs live under a peace treaty set by Rani Mai essayed by Supriya Pathak.

Supriya Pathak Kapoor is most popular for playing the role of Hansa Parekh in the comedy show Khichdi. Before Rani Mai, she has also played a negative role as Dhankor Baa in Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh starrer Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Pathak was last seen in Toofaan. Rani Mai is the matriarch, the head of the Angre family an influential gang in Mumbai. She took over as the gang leader after her husbands death.

Talking about Rani Mai and Dhankor Baa, the veteran actor said: “I am playing the head of a mafia family for the second time and I wanted to play it differently." She said she has played Rani Mai very differently. Her walk and stance are very different from the previous character she has played.

Vayu Raghavan of the famous web series Inside Edge, Tanuj Virwani will be seen in the show Cartel along with Supriya Pathak and Rithvik Dhanjani. He will be seen as Major Bhau. Virwani recently spoke to a leading daily telling them how before every release he changes his name on his social media handle. The show also stars Vibhav Roy, Mrinal Dutt and Krishna Kaul, Monica Dogra, Sushrii Mishraa, Pranati Rai Prakash.

The series is set in Mumbai and five lords manage different parts of the city. The trailer reveals how they carry out their mission. The show gives us a glimpse of the contemporary underworld. The gangs exist in peace because of a treaty by Rani Maai however, a sudden imbalance occurs. Cartel is filled with “twists, turns, deceit, manipulation, action and a lot of drama.”

The show will be available on ALTBalaji and MX Gold and premiers on August 20. You can watch the trailer here:
