The viral Kerala medicos Rasputin dance video stunned the internet when it surfaced earlier this month. Their flawless footwork and spot-on rendition of the TikTok dance challenge was an instant mood booster for countless netizens, across all social media. But, as are most things, Janaki M Omkumar and Naveen K Razak's viral video was given a communal spin by some. The two students of Thrissur Medical College, however, haven't stood down and instead have come round harder.

Their response to the negative discourse surrounding the Rasputin video is made of epic stuff.

Facebook user Krishna Raj, a Kerala-based advocate as per his profile, shared the duo's dance video on Thursday, writing he smelt "something wrong here." Raising supposed concerns over Omkumar's safety, he wrote, “Janaki’s parents should be careful. And if they are careful, they won’t have to be sorry later, as Nimisha’s mother has proven. Let’s pray for Janaki’s father Omkumar and his wife."

Nimisha is a reference to a woman who went missing in 2015. She had converted to Islam and allegedly gone to Afghanistan to join a terror outfit, as per The Hindu. Her mother had appealed to the centre to "rescue" her. Raj's remarks were supported by many of his followers.

Kerala Medicos Rasputin Dance Joined By Other Students In Response To Communalism

The Kerala medical students, however, are taking none of it. Omkumar and Razak, the dancing duo, dismissed the communal remarks, saying in an ">interview, "We are the new generation. We are not bothered by this."

In what's winning the internet, even more, the medicos were joined in their Rasputin challenge by other members of their college dance squad. A video posted on Thrissur Medical College's union page shows several students jiving to the beats of Boney M's iconic number. They are joined, in the end, by now-viral sensations Omkumar and Razak.

"If the intention is hate, then the decision is to resist. #resisthate," the post's caption reads.

The IMA-Medical Students Network in Kerala also slammed Raj's post on Facebook, saying, "Medical college campuses are a place where all the religious, caste, gender differences created by man become completely irrelevant. It reminds us that we are people who behave, interact, think and speak."

When Omkumar and Razak's video first caught national attention in early April, it won acclaim from big names like choreographer Prasanna Sujit and actor Anarkali Marikar. Bollywood star Ayushmann Khurrana too recently lauded the duo on Instagram stories.

The two medicos are part of their college's dance team 'Vikings' and have previously stated their dance was prepared with no more than 20 minutes of practice. Full story here.
