As Hindi cinema has opened more meaty roles, it's been a relief to the older women actors. In an industry where a woman after marriage or 30s was considered old enough to play roles of mothers to actors older than them, this change is certainly a relief.

One example of women actors returning to work after a gap is actor Neena Gupta. She felt that there was a loss of respect as a housewife for her. "But what happened was that I realised that jinke liye main ye sab kar rahi hin (the people I did everything for) they didn't have time for me. People were always busy with their things. So, I realised that it is wrong and that I have to work because it is the most important thing in everybody's life. I realised I needed to work. So, I put up that post. And Badhai Ho happened. And I was back," she had said in an interview.
