Vani Kapoor, who has always focused on picking performance-oriented roles, is all set to make her OTT debut. Gopi Puthran, the director of Mardaani, will direct her in a crime thriller web series. The series will be part of Yash Raj Film’s OTT slate, which is bankrolled by YRF Entertainment.
The actor was acclaimed for portraying the role of a transwoman in Abhishek Kapoor’s Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui opposite Aayushman Khuranna.
According to ANI, a source said, "Vaani has only been looking for projects where she could deliver a performance to remember. She loves a challenge, and she does land her acting perfectly. In Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui, she did it brilliantly.

"While she continues to give performances at theatricals she will not turn down a great digital project like Gopi Puthran’s next. "The web series will be an edge-of-your-seat crime thriller. YRF feels it is a brilliant concept and is extremely bullish about it. They will mount this project at a scale that will surprise people," added the source.
The source also said that director Gopi Puthran wanted to cast someone who'd be fresh on the OTT landscape. He also wanted a solid performer who could deliver brilliant acting moments in this gritty thriller. Since he had always appreciated Vaani Kapoor’s work, he spoke to her to check on her intent. Much to his delight, Vaani jumped at the brilliant concept and agreed to take up the project.
"For Vaani, she is looking to work with the brightest of minds to become a better performer with each outing. So, this was a slam dunk for her," added the source.
Director Gopi Puthran has become a talent to watch after his brilliant directorial debut with Mardaani 2, starring Rani Mukerjee.
The official announcement regarding the project is expected to be released soon.
The actor was last seen in Shamshera, alongside Ranbir Kapoor, in 2022. Though her role as Sona didn’t have a great character arc and she was given limited screen time, her performance in every frame was acclaimed by critics.
