Milind Soman has recently shared that his 81-year-old mother, Usha Soman is the oldest woman to complete the Sandakphu Phalut trek. He took to Instagram and shared throwback images and videos from December 2020 when his entire family went for the trek. "Sunset at 12000ft and the spectacular views of Khangchendzonga and Chomolungma made the 52km trek more than worth it!" the fitness enthusiast captioned his picture.
"Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Darjeeling said that Aai is the oldest woman to have ever trekked this route we are blessed .. (sic)," he wrote while posing with wife Ankita KonwarΒ and mother Usha Soman.
Towards the end of 2020, the family of three travelled from Darjeeling to Phalut and also braved the harsh weather at 12,000 feet, that too in the winter season, while maintaining that it was the "best kind of social distancing".
Both Konwar and Milind Soman are pro marathoners, who actively share their workout sessions on social media. Usha Soman also gets featured in these videos. She wins millions of hearts every time she appears on social media. Her son and daughter-in-law often post videos of her running a race or doing push-ups.
On his mother's birthday last year, Milind Soman tweeted a video with a message that read: β3rd July 2020. Celebrating 81 amazing years in the best way. Happy birthday Aai." in the video, she was seen doing push-ups.
In 2016, Usha Soman ran a barefoot marathon, in a saree, with her son. The video of the two running barefoot went viral. In another viral video, she was seen doing a plank. In 2017, the then 78-year-old Usha Soman held the plank for 80 seconds, and according to her son, that was still not her personal best.
