Whether it's iconic romcoms returning with their timeless charm or action-packed franchises, writers are doubling down on films that audiences love most.

Here is a list of film sequels to look forward to.

The Devil Wears Prada 2

Screaming. Crying. Throwing up. 

One of the most iconic fashion movies is returning with a sequel in May 2026 (tentative). Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci are all set to dominate our screens once again. Joining this iconic lineup are some new faces like Lucy Liu and Simone Ashley, bringing their fresh energy and fierce fashion game to Runway magazine.

Bend It Like Beckham 2

Filmmaker Gurinder Chadha recently announced the comeback of her iconic 2002 film Bend It Like Beckham, starring Parminder Nagra and Keira Knightley. Speaking to Deadline, she said, "I’m excited to revisit the original characters and revive the enduring story and build on the legacy we helped to create for the women’s game." She added that the original cast is likely to be a part of the sequel. 

Freakier Friday 

One of the 2000s' most crazy-fun movies just got "freakier". Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis' Freakier Friday is going to be a wild ride as they dive back into the iconic body-swap chaos. Only this time, with even more unexpected twists. The film is reportedly releasing on August 8.

Dirty Dancing sequel

The sequel to the 1987 hit Dirty Dancing is in the works, starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey. Although the release date has not been disclosed, the cast has mentioned that they are hoping to "get it right." In May 2022, director Jonathan Levine said in a statement, "While the original ‘Dirty Dancing’ has always been one of my favourite films, I never imagined I would direct the sequel. Through co-writing it, I fell in love with the characters, new and old."

 

Crazy Rich Asians sequel

Our favourite in-flight movie, Crazy Rich Asians, is returning, but there's a twist! According to director Jon M. Chu, the sequel is going to be a series, starring the favourites, Constance Wu, Michelle Yeoh, Gemma Chan, Awkwafina, and others. During a screening of the film Another Simple Favor, lead actor Henry Golding confirmed that the project is underway. The release date has not been disclosed.

Wicked: For Good

After the 'wicked' success of the 2024 film starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, Wicked: For Good is all set for its next franchise in November 2025. The first part of the Broadway musical-turned-movie received massive praise last year, especially for Cynthia Erivo's bold and commanding voice as Elphaba. The film won over 137 awards for acting, costume design, and set design. It's all set to take us on a magical trip all over again.

The Conjuring: Last Rites

One of horror's most iconic movies, Conjuring is set for its fourth sequel, with Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson all set to reprise their roles, paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. Releasing in September 2025, the film also stars Mia Tomlinson, Taissa Farmiga, and Ben Hardy. Said to be the final chapter in the Warrens’ story, this film is expected to be their darkest case yet.

Dune: Part Three

Zendaya, Timothee Chalamet, and Florence Pugh are back with another Dune sequel, set to release in December 2026 (tentative). Directed by Denis Villeneuve, the sci-fi film is based on the 1969 novel Dune Messiah by Frank Herbert. It also stars Robert Pattinson, Jason Momoa, Javier Bardem, and Ida Brooke among others.

Harry Potter series

Harry Potter is returning as an HBO series, chronicling Harry's entire story from the first JK Rowling book to the latest. Starring all-new faces, the series is a widely anticipated spin-off of the Hogwarts universe. In the season-by-season adaptation of the seven books, fans will see Harry, Ron, and Hermione navigate the difficult challenges of wizarding life, battle Voldemort’s forces, unravel the mysteries of the past, and grow up together.
