Hollywood is rolling out numerous interesting releases this year with a variety of genres to dive into for the cinephiles. To cater for its audience, the industry has lined up some highly anticipated sequels and collaborations that are bound to draw viewers to both the cinemas and OTT.

The first half of 2022 was ruled by superheroes and sequels, with releases like Tom Cruise-starrer Top Gun: Maverick, a sequel to 1986 cult film Top Gun, Marvel's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Thor: Love and Thunder, as well as from the world of dinosaurs, Jurassic World Dominion along with Robert Pattinson's The Batman. To maintain this momentum, Hollywood has scheduled even more promising releases for the rest of 2022 with star-studded films helmed by filmmakers who have a dedicated fan following of their own.

The Gray Man

Adapted from Mark Greaney's debut novel by the same name, The Gray Man follows the story of Court Gentry, aka Sierra Six, a CIA mercenary, who uncovers dark secrets and is being hunted by his former colleague, Lloyd Hansen, and international assassins. The film is expected to set the tone for a franchise based on Greaney's Gray Man novels. It stars Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Regé-Jean Page and our very own Dhanush. The film is directed by Russo Brothers, Joe and Anthony Russo and is set for an OTT release on Netflix.

Talk of a star-studded cast and we have David O Russell's Amsterdam ready to blow the minds. The film's cast includes Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, John David Washington, Chris Rock, Anya Taylor-Joy, Zoe Saldaña, Rami Malek and Robert De Niro along with a cameo from Taylor Swift and others. Set in the 1930s, the film follows the story of three friends who witness a murder and become the prime suspects.

My Policeman

Based on Bethan Roberts' 2012 romance novel by the same name, My Policeman revolves around Tom, a gay policeman, who marries a schoolteacher, Marion, despite being in a relationship with Patrick, a museum curator while homosexuality being illegal in the 1950s. The film stars Harry Styles, Emma Corrin, Gina Mckee, Linus Roache, David Dawson, and Rupert Everett. The film will stream on Amazon Prime Video along with a limited release in cinemas.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

The sequel to 2018 Black Panther was confirmed back in 2019. However, the Marvel Studios had to change plans in 2020 when Chadwick Boseman, who played the titular role of King T'Challa lost his life to cancer. While the Studios refused to recast his role, the other cast members were confirmed to return for the sequel. The film will be the 30th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Black Panther fans are anticipating a tribute to star Chadwick Boseman and how the story will unfurl now that his character will not be returning. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever features actors Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett, and Dominique Thorne.

Avatar: The Way of Water

The second film in the famous Avatar franchise, Avatar: The Way of Water, will be finally hitting the cinemas this year. One of the most anticipated movies of 2022, the film is expected to pick up from where its prequel, released in 2009, left the viewers. Actors Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Stephen Lang, Joel David Moore and Matt Gerald among others will reprise their roles in the sequel. New additions to the Avatar 2 cast includes Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Edie Falco, Jemaine Clement, Michelle Yeoh, and Vin Diesel along with Sigourney Weaver returning as a different character.
