Thalaivi Teaser Out, 10 Things To Know About The Upcoming Biopic

Thalaivi movie: Here are 10 things to know about the upcoming biopic based on the life of J. Jayalalithaa.

Remembering J.Jayalalithaa on her 73rd birth anniversary, actor Kangana Ranaut announced the release date of the upcoming biopic, where she plays the role of the late Tamil actor and politician, on Twitter today. Sharing the release date along with the motion poster, she captioned, “To Jaya Amma, on her birth anniversary Witness the story of the legend, #Thalaivi, in cinemas on 23rd April, 2021.”

In the motion poster, we can see the the reflection of Kangana's face as Jayalalithaa in the map of Tamil Nadu, which was made by red, white and black flags, which represent the colours of AIADMK party's flag. Moreover, we also see Kangana as the Tamil politician amidst a huge gathering and making the V-sign, which also represents one of the important symbols of the political party. The teaser also has a voiceover which tells us how Jayalalithaa made history in both film industry and politics and changed the fortune of the state of Tamil Nadu as 'Thalaivi', the female leader.

Here are 10 things to know about the upcoming biopic:

  1. Thalaivi is an upcoming multi-lingual biopic (Hindi, Tamil and Telugu) about the life of J. Jayalalithaa, the stateswoman and actor who served six terms as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. The film will capture from her journey from stardom to politics.
  2. The film is directed by Madrasapattinam fame A. L. Vijay and produced by Vibri Media in collaboration with Karma Media And Entertainment. It has been written by K.V Vijayendra Prasad.
  3. It stars Kangana in the titular role. Meanwhile, Prakash Raj, Jisshu Sengupta, Bhagyashree, Arvind Swami, Nassar, Poorna will also been seen in supporting roles.
  4. As per the sources, The film will reportedly clash with the forthcoming Yashraj Film's Bunty and Babli 2, starring Rani Mukerji, Saif Ali Khan, Sidhant Chaturvedi and Sharvari Wagh.
  5. On the same day last year, the makers of the movie shared a look of Kangana as young 'Jaya Amma' wearing a white saree and a red bindi, along with the original photo of the late politician. They shared the photos on Instagram with a caption, "Remembering the super-lady J Jayalalithaa on her 72nd birth anniversary. Her life’s story speaks volumes about the stout-heartedness and the leadership qualities she possessed. Kangana and everyone who loves her and follows her teachings denote her as Jaya Amma.”

  6. The first ">teaser of the film was released by T-series on November 23, 2019. In the teaser, Kangana essays the role of Jayalalithaa, giving us a glimpse of her journey from a 'superstar heroine' to a 'revolutionary hero'. In the first scene, a young Jayalalithaa is seen dancing and shooting for a movie, which smoothly transitions to a setting of a political rally where an older Amma is seen waving at a gathering.
  7. Kangana shared behind-the-scenes photos of her movie shoot every now and then on Twitter, teasing the netizens with sneak-peeks into the movie.
  8. The shooting of the film began on November 23, 2019, but was halted in March 2020 due to COVID-19 pandemic. The shoot was later resumed in the second half of 2020.
  9. In November 2019, Deepa Jayakumar, Jayalalitha's niece, registered a complaint against the makers through the Madras High Court. In her plea, she asserted that she was the legal heir of Jayalalitha and hence, before making any project about late aunt, the creators of the film should have approached her, which they failed to do. She also claimed that the Kangana's film could affect the privacy of the late politician and her family.
  10. However, the Madras High Court rejected the plea to injunct the release of Thalaivi the next month and cleared the decks for further production and release.
